Proper part design is the basis for successfully producing quality thermoformed parts. Whether it be a production part or a returnable packaging tray, our design staff excels at working with our customers to achieve optimal product designs.

The production part design process typically starts with our customers sending drawings, sometimes basic concept drawings, of the parts they would like to produce. While many of our customers are very familiar with the thermoforming process, we thoroughly evaluate and review each new design. More often than not, we are able to suggest ways in which to achieve such goals as greater wall thickness, greater durability, and more consistently produced, and therefore less expensive, products.

For production parts, part design also includes choosing the right plastic material for the application. You can view a table of the engineering properties of different materials here .

Returnable packaging and material handling trays most often start with part designs being sent and the criteria of the trays being determined. It is also extremely helpful to have part samples for designing purposes. Please see the Material Handling Questionaire for a more complete list of criteria to assist us in creating the optimal material handling tray for your application. This questionaire takes a small amount of time to fill out but saves an immense amount of time in the long run.

Our design staff works with a variety of file formats, including dwg, dxf, acis, igs, asm, step, prt, and sldprt formats.
